Welcome to GirlUp Mississauga!
Women have so much more power than society affords them. Unfortunately, women lack access to education and are often taken for granted within their homes and communities. We are working to change that…
Who Are We?
We are GirlUp Mississauga! One of the GirlUp Campaign's many chapters around the world. Our chapter was started in 2020 by our current chapter president, Abeer Sabz Ali. Our chapter strives to make advances towards gender equality in education. This can be seen through our programs and events. Here are a couple, take a look for yourself...
SHE'S THE NORTH
In honour of International Women's Day, we collaborated with GirlUp London and GirlUp Brampton to host a 2-day summit. The first day was dedicated to Women in Sports, and the second day was dedicated to Women in Arts.
MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
This program was a way to connect high school students to students in post secondary fields similar to their interests. With the rise of COVID-19, we wanted to provide students with a way to seek guidance on post-secondary matters, and open up communication for high school students who may lack support during this transition.
HIGHSCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES
In order to engage with the younger generation of advocates, we opened up opportunities for high school students to engage with our program. The purpose was to provide youth with volunteer opportunities, as well as spread information regarding local women's advocacy groups to allow Mississauga's interested youth dip their feet into women's rights groups.
Not only do we work towards equality in education, but we also try to help out the community whenever possible. This is done through hosting charity events and raising awareness for organizations that are in need. For more details regarding our events, please see the events page.
